Lawyers Assisting Helping Defend Against Traffic Tickets in Daytona Beach, Winter Park, and Orange County

For many drivers, traffic tickets are an unfortunate reality. A driver may take care to follow traffic laws whenever possible, but a simple mistake may lead to the sight of flashing lights in their rearview mirror. Being pulled over by a police officer can be stressful, and in many cases, drivers may be unaware of the exact laws that they are accused of violating or the consequences they may face. Depending on the severity of the offense, a person may be subject to fines, their insurance rates may increase, and they could even lose their driver's license. To determine their best options, drivers will want to consult with an attorney.

The lawyers at the Vasquez Law Firm, PLLC offer legal help and representation in cases involving traffic offenses, helping drivers resolve these situations successfully. We have over 35 years of combined legal experience, and we believe in helping people avoid serious consequences and maintain their ability to drive. Traffic Violations and Points in Florida

For many drivers, a traffic ticket may seem like an inconvenience, and rather than prolonging the legal process, simply paying a fine may seem like the best approach. However, it is important to understand that by doing so, a person will be pleading guilty to the alleged violation. This conviction will be added to their driving record, and their insurance company will be notified. Multiple violations could result in further consequences, including the suspension of a person's driver's license.

Each traffic offense carries a certain number of points, and these appoints will accumulate on a person's driving record. If a person reaches a total of 12 points in a single year, their driver's license will be suspended for 30 days. If the point total reaches 18 within 18 months, a person's license will be suspended for three months. A total of 24 points within three years will result in a one-year license suspension.

The number of points added to a person's license will be based on the severity of a traffic offense. Some common violations and their point values include:

  • Exceeding the speed limit or driving faster than is safe based on conditions on the road - 3 points
  • Failure to use a car seat or child restraints for a child passenger - 3 points
  • Failure to yield to other vehicles when required - 3 points
  • Careless driving in which a person fails to operate their vehicle in a reasonable and prudent manner and endangers someone else's life, health, or property - 3 points
  • Failure to stop at a red light - 4 points
  • Failure to stop for a school bus - 4 points
  • Failure to yield the right of way to a pedestrian - 4 points
  • Reckless driving in which a person operates a vehicle with a willful and wanton disregard for others' safety - 4 points
  • Leaving the scene of a car accident involving damage of at least $50 without exchanging information with other drivers - 6 points
  • Failing to leave information after colliding with an unattended vehicle and causing property damage - 6 points
