National Consulate Directory

16 Countries · More Than 130 Consular Offices

Find your home country’s consulate anywhere in the United States — addresses, phone numbers, coverage areas and official appointment portals.

Before you can file most immigration cases you need documents from your home country — a passport, a birth certificate, a national ID, or a power of attorney. Those come from your consulate, not from USCIS.

Hours, addresses and requirements change often. Always confirm directly with the consulate before you travel. This directory is informational only; Vasquez Law Firm is not a consulate and is not affiliated with any foreign government.

Search across 137 consular offices in 16 countries.

How to book your consulate appointment, step by step

Almost no consulate takes walk-ins. This is the normal path.

Infographic: how to book your consulate appointment in four steps. 1) Find your consulate and check which states it covers. 2) Book online through your country’s official portal. 3) Gather your documents, originals and copies. 4) Go to your appointment and arrive early.
  1. Find your consulate

Look up your country in the list above and check which states that office covers.

  2. Book online

Each country has its own official appointment portal, listed in its section. Slots fill quickly.

  3. Gather your documents

Bring originals AND copies. Many offices do not photocopy on site.

  4. Go to your appointment

Arrive early and confirm the hours that same day, because they change often.

What to bring to your appointment

What almost every consulate asks for. Always confirm on your country’s official site.

  • Original birth certificate

Plus a photocopy. This is the most commonly forgotten document.

  • Photo identification

Driver’s license, previous passport or consular ID card.

  • Proof of address

A utility bill or a lease in your name.

  • The right form of payment

Money order or cashier’s check only is common. Often no cards and no cash.

  • Your appointment confirmation

Printed or on your phone, with the confirmation number visible.

The most common mistakes: showing up without an appointment, or bringing the original without a copy. Either one can cost you the whole trip.

Mobile Consulates: What They Are and How to Use Them

A mobile consulate is a team from your country's consulate that travels for one or several days to a city with no permanent office. You can handle things like your passport or consular ID there without driving to the main consulate city. But they only offer the services announced for that specific date, so you need to confirm before you go.

Consular staff serving families at a mobile consulate set up in a community hall

How they work

  1. Your country's consulate sets up a temporary service point, usually in a community center, church, or event hall, for one or several days.
  2. Mexico calls it a 'consulado sobre ruedas' when it travels on weekdays and a 'jornada sabatina' when the home office opens an extra Saturday. Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador usually just call theirs a 'consulado móvil.'
  3. The team follows the same system and the same rules as the permanent office, but only handles the procedures announced for that specific event, not everything the consulate normally does.
  4. A mobile consulate does not replace the fixed consulate. Difficult cases, notarial powers of attorney, and civil registry corrections almost always still have to go through the main office.
  5. Dates and cities change constantly because they depend on budget and staff availability, so never rely on an old flyer or last year's calendar.

What you normally CAN do

  • New passport or passport renewal
  • Consular ID card (Mexico's matrícula consular, El Salvador's DUI, Guatemala's TICG, or Honduran ID enrollment)
  • Certified copies of a birth certificate, or registering the birth of a US-born child
  • Voter ID card, for Mexican citizens
  • Dual nationality registration, at events that include it

What you almost always CANNOT

  • Notarial power of attorney: almost always requires the permanent consular office
  • Complicated nationality cases or civil registry corrections that need deeper review
  • Visas for people who are not citizens of that country
  • Any procedure the consulate did not specifically announce for that event, even if they normally offer it at their main office
  • A guarantee that you get the document the same day: each case is reviewed under the regulations, and having an appointment does not mean automatic approval

How to find out when one is coming to your city

  • Check your country's official consulate website, in the 'avisos' or 'calendario' section (for example consulmex.sre.gob.mx, minex.gob.gt, sreci.gob.hn, or rree.gob.sv), for upcoming dates and cities.
  • Use your country's official appointment app or portal: MiConsulado and citas.sre.gob.mx for Mexico, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs appointment portal for El Salvador, or the consular services system for Honduras.
  • Follow the Facebook or X page of the consulate that covers your state, for example the Mexican Consulate in Orlando or the Guatemalan Consulate in Miami, since they usually post the announcements there first.
  • Call the permanent consulate that covers your area and ask directly when the next mobile consulate is coming to your city.
  • Local Spanish-language radio, newspapers and Facebook community groups in Florida often repost the official announcement when a mobile consulate is coming nearby. Treat them as a heads-up only, and confirm the date on the consulate's own page before travelling.

Dates, cities and available services change with every event. Always confirm on your consulate’s official site before going, and never rely on an old flyer.

Common questions

Do I need an appointment to visit a mobile consulate?

It depends on the country. Mexico and Guatemala usually require an appointment, even for mobile events, which you can book online, by phone, or through the official app. El Salvador's mobile consulate usually works on a first-come, first-served basis, without an appointment. Always confirm on your consulate's official page before you go.

Can I get a power of attorney or handle a complicated procedure at the mobile consulate?

Generally no. Notarial powers of attorney and more complicated nationality or civil registry cases almost always have to be handled at the permanent consular office, not at the mobile event. Confirm with your consulate whether your specific procedure will be available that day.

How do I know when a mobile consulate is coming to my city in Florida?

Start with the consulate that already covers Florida for your country. Every one of the 16 countries in this directory has at least one Florida office — most are in Miami, with Mexico and Colombia also in Orlando, El Salvador and Panama in Tampa, and Guatemala in Lake Worth. So in Florida a mobile consulate is usually about distance rather than absence: it exists to reach people who live hours from Miami. Check that office's 'avisos' page and its social accounts, or call and ask directly when the next mobile consulate is scheduled for your area. Dates are announced with little notice and change often, so confirm before you travel.

A consulate cannot represent you before USCIS or in immigration court. That takes an attorney licensed in the United States.

A consulate cannot handle your U.S. case. We can.

If what you need is U.S. immigration work (residency, citizenship, deportation defense or work authorization) that takes an attorney licensed in the United States, not the consulate.

We are a law firm with licensed attorneys, not notarios. Your information is not shared with immigration authorities. We serve you in Spanish.

Need help with your U.S. immigration case?

A consulate issues your documents; it cannot file with USCIS or speak for you in immigration court. Our free immigration guide covers the four paths to legal status, what to do this week, and the moves that wreck cases.

Common questions

What services does a consulate offer?

Consulates issue and renew passports and national ID documents, register births, marriages and deaths, issue notarial powers of attorney, and legalize or apostille documents. They also provide emergency assistance to their citizens, including help if someone is detained.

Can my consulate help with my U.S. immigration case?

No. A consulate represents your home country, not the U.S. government. It can give you the civil documents and identification your immigration case needs — a birth certificate or passport, for example — but it cannot file forms with USCIS or represent you in U.S. immigration court. That is the role of a licensed U.S. immigration attorney.

Do I need an appointment to visit a consulate?

Almost always, yes. Most consulates now require an appointment booked through their official online portal, and walk-in service is rare. Each country’s appointment portal is listed with its consulate below.

What documents should I bring to the consulate?

Generally: valid photo identification, your most recent passport or national ID if you have one, an original birth certificate plus a photocopy, and proof of your U.S. address. Many offices do not photocopy documents on site, so bring originals and copies of everything.

How do I pay for consular services?

Many consulates accept only a money order or cashier’s check — cash and credit cards are frequently refused. Guatemala’s consulates, for example, accept money orders only. Call ahead to confirm accepted payment methods before you travel.

What is a matrícula consular?

A matrícula consular is a consular identification card issued by a consulate to its citizens living abroad. It confirms your identity and your address in the United States, and is accepted as identification by many U.S. banks and local agencies.

Your consulate can give you the documents. For your U.S. immigration case, request a free case review or browse our free immigration guides.
