Special Programs FAQs
What is DACA, and can I still apply?
Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) offers protection from removal and work authorization to certain people who came to the United States as children and meet specific requirements. Because DACA has been the subject of ongoing litigation, the rules about who can file — especially first-time applicants — can change. Current DACA recipients are generally able to renew. We check the latest guidance before you file so you know exactly where things stand.
How often do I need to renew DACA?
DACA and its work authorization are granted for a limited period and must be renewed. USCIS generally recommends filing your renewal several months before your current DACA expires to avoid a gap in your protection and work permit. We track your deadlines and prepare renewals early so your status does not lapse.
What is Temporary Protected Status (TPS)?
TPS is a temporary immigration benefit for nationals of certain countries that the U.S. government has designated because of conditions such as armed conflict or natural disaster. TPS can provide protection from removal and work authorization while the designation is in effect. Eligibility depends on your nationality, your continuous presence in the U.S., and registering during the correct filing window, which we help you meet.
Who qualifies for a U visa through these programs?
The U visa is for victims of certain qualifying crimes who suffered substantial harm and who assist law enforcement with the investigation or prosecution. It usually requires a law enforcement certification and can lead to work authorization and, eventually, a possible path to a green card. We review whether your situation meets the requirements and help coordinate the certification.
How much do special immigration programs cost to apply for?
Costs typically include government filing fees plus attorney fees, and the exact fees depend on which program and forms apply to your case. Some applicants qualify for fee waivers, and certain humanitarian petitions have no USCIS filing fee. We give you a clear, itemized estimate for your specific situation during a free case review.
